Emerald as we all known is a very beautiful green stone from beryl family.

Due to its very high prices, it is most commonly imitated. We have to be extremely cautious and careful in purchasing emerald since some of them are actually pale color beryl with green wax surface coating. If we scratch or scrape the surface with sharp objects, the coating will come off or when it is soaked in acetone and then polish, the surface coating will disappear.
